Four East Midland swimmers comprised the British squad who competed at the Berlin leg of the FINA World Cup series.
The competition which ran over the weekend saw lots of fast swimming and close finishing finals. Representing Britain from the region was: Daniel Fogg (Loughborough University), Sophie Allen (Lincoln Vulcans), Sasha Matthews (Nova Centurion) and Emma Smithurst (Derventio eXcel).
On the first day, Sophie Allen swam a best time to take the silver medal in the Women’s 200m IM in a time of 2:11.55.
In the 200m IM, Emma Smithurst just missed out on the medals with a fourth place finish in 2:12.41. However, she improved her own best time and English Record in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley to touch second in a time of 4:34.11. Lincoln Vulcans Sophie Allen was fifth with a time of 4:44.34 and UAE Norwich swimmer Anne Bochmann (15) finished eighth in 4:45.88.
Loughborough University’s Daniel Fogg won bronze in the men’s 1500m Freestyle with an impressive display in a time of 15:06.80.
Sasha Matthews finished fifth in the Women’s 400m Freestyle in a time of 4:08.54 just ahead of team mate Lucy Worrall of Stockport Metro in seventh and a time of 4:09.36.
Emma Smithurst rounded off the tour with a seventh place finish in the Women’s 200m Butterfly in a time of 2:10.37.
