ASA National Masters & Senior Age Groups Championships 2008

More than 1,000 swimmers made their way to Ponds Forge in Sheffield last weekend (24th- 29th October 2008) for the ASA National Masters & Senior Age Groups Championships.

With nearly 650 male competitors and nearly 500 female swimmers, the championships were set for a busy weekend with new World, European and British records hanging in the balance.

After a fun weekend of tough competition and fast swimming a total of 72 World, European or British records fell.

Below is a list of all the World, European or British record breakers from the region:

Day 1

A new European record was set in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke 35-39 years age group by Helen Gorman (Nottingham Leander) who touched in 2:42.58.

Day 2

In the afternoon session a new European record was set by Julie Gibson (Etwall Eagles) in the Women’s 200m Butterfly 40-44 age group in a time of 2:29.20.

Later that day Helen Akers’ (Long Eaton) won the Women’s 100m Freestyle in a British record time of 1:00.12 in the 35-39 age group.

Day 3

On the final day of racing in the men's 200m Medley team event, 72+ age group the Nottingham Leander relay team broke the British record in a time of 1:24.61.
